Conceptual Design of a Fast Patrol Boat Related to Optional Propulsion Systems

The propulsion system selection process is analysed as of how the design evolution is affected in general arrangement and structural terms for a fast offshore patrol boat to operate as an armed Coast Guard SaR vessel suitable for the Greek Archipelago.

The conceptual design process considers real engineering problems and clear suggestions are requested by the manufacturers so that any disadvantages and operational limitations are analysed from the beginning concerning the propulsion system in respect of vessel performance related to the hull structure and reliable function of the interrelated systems.

The analysis examines the initial choice of a water jet propulsion system towards the final selection of a controllable pitch propeller system (CPP) and how the change affect the General Arrangement of the vessel and her operational capability and profile.
